In Canada, the government is Parliamentary Democratic, with Stephen Harper as Prime Minister. Under our system of constitutional monarchy, the Queen is our Head of State: She represents the people as citizens. The queen or monarch fulfills more traditional and ceremonial duties. Canada is a federation, which means that the work of governing the country is shared by the federal and provincial or territorial governments.2 Each province has their own premier who is voted for/selected by the people and is therefore looking out for the best interests of their province.

The major industries of Canada include: processed and unprocessed minerals, food products, wood and paper products, transportation equipment, chemicals, fish products, petroleum and natural gas.3

The primary sectors of Canada are: services 74%, manufacturing 15%, construction 5%, agriculture 3%, and other 3%.

3% of Canadians are directly occupied in the business of farming, but the agri-food sector employs about 15% of the population.
