"Civil Society Support in Rural Area Trough Youth and Women Leadership Development"

The National Rural Women's Council have partnered with QOL Associates on their thrid project. The project is aimed at strengthening rural communities by preparing leaders as catalysts to effectively deal with today’s changing world. The target groups for the project are young people and women in rural areas. These two categories have been selected as target groups as they need support in the first turn and at the same time these groups have a big potential which when realized could contribute much to rural area social and economic development. Along with focusing on leadership skills development NRWC as women organization will promote gender equity in rural areas.

Rural Empowerment through Rural Co-operative Development

The National Rural Women’s Council (NRWC of Poltava, Ukraine) and QOL Associates (Manitoba, Canada) partnered with the goal to enhance the status of rural women in Ukraine; improving their families’ living conditions; developing women’s entrepreneurial and management skills; and working to create equal opportunities for men and women working in the agrarian sector. The activities completed during this project were informing the rural population about acting legislation and existing equal rights opportunities, training and educating women-leaders in rural areas, lobbying equal rights for women and men, and introducing gender principles in rural areas. Project activities concluded in February 2005.

“Small Business Development in Rural Areas”

Once again the National Rural Women’s Council (NRWC of Poltava, Ukraine) and QOL Associates (Manitoba, Canada) have partnered. With this project they plan to further develop micro-businesses in Poltava’s rural areas. This project will also contribute to the development of “business incubators”; supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses. Training, information and consultative services will be provided according to the needs of the rural dwellers. The project plans to complement the measures taken by the Ukrainian government, civil society and other organizations to overcome poverty and increase the employment rate in the rural area.
